> WHAT'S NEXT?

You will be able to skipper a small yacht by day in familiar waters. Upon successful completion of the RYA Day Skipper course, you will have gained a recognised qualification that is accepted in the majority of countries as confirmation of your competence to charter a boat.

If you are planning to charter with your RYA Day Skipper certificate we would recommend checking with your charter company to ensure that they accept the RYA Day Skipper certificate as evidence of competence. Some charter companies may insist on an ICC (International Certificate of Competency). If this is the case, your RYA Day Skipper certificate can be used to gain the ICC. Please visit our ICC page to download the ICC application form. If you haven't chartered a boat before, we recommend having a look at our Chartering a yacht for the first time blog post for useful information on the charter process – from helping you to choose a yacht to what should be included in charter handover.

Day Skipper training on the Solent. Sailing from Cowes on the isle Wight down to the Needles lighthouse

RYA Day skippers can charter a boat to skipper for themselves worldwide. This shot was taken in a beautiful anchorage in Mallorca

Why not gain some more experience by taking part in one of our exciting mile builders (more information here and here).

We also love racing - it’s a great way to learn all the different stations on the boat. We have planned some race training, as well as some exciting racing (check out the races we have entered by clicking on the “2022 Races” link in the header of this page).
